We hired a new girl in our office a week ago and she was a perfect fit for our receptionist. She had a warm smile, a welcoming voice, and a professional character for someone fresh out of college. Her name is Lisa and it’s kind of fun to have someone new to Orlando work in the office. She’s from up north so she can’t believe she can wear a dress in January, and it’s refreshing to see someone so young and eager to succeed. Last Thursday, however, 9:00 a.m. hit and she wasn’t in yet. We all knew she was new to her commute, so we gave her a while. Then 9:30 came, and we were all puzzled. I gave her cell phone a few calls, and it rang, but she never answered. We all became worried something happened, and about an hour later we found out something did. We received a call from the hospital, and apparently she was walking on a sidewalk underneath some construction scaffolding and a plank slipped out and crashed down on her shoulder. It knocked her down and may have even separated it, but they’re still not sure. The worst of it all is her insurance doesn’t start up for another two weeks, so we all came together and thought up a plan. We went online and found a personal injury attorney website and did some research. We had a bunch of questions, and when we clicked on the Hot Topics link, it was directory with over 100 articles on almost every topic you could think of. We then filled out the form on the main page and set up an appointment with an attorney, and when we told him the story he said we absolutely had a case. We all decided we’d chip in for the retainer, but he guaranteed a large payout, so she has nothing to worry about. We can’t wait for Lisa to return happy and healthy, but I hope her payout isn’t TOO much, we want her to continue working here!

I just moved out to the western suburbs of Chicago, and I couldn’t be happier. I’ve lived on the north side for eight years, and in my most recent condo with my son for the past five. I’ve always worked in the ‘burbs, but I was still young and loved the atmosphere of Chicago. Now that my son’s getting into kindergarten I want him in a safer environment and have a yard to play in, you know, the typical “American Dream”. So I found a great starter home on a quiet street with amazing neighbors, and got a fabulous deal on the place too!  As the movers were filling up my house with everything, a nice middle aged couple came over from across the street and started up a conversation. They were talking about the neighborhood and their teenage kids when a car pulled in my driveway. I shifted Logan to my left shoulder to see who it was, and I noticed the “Home Security” sign on the side of his car. As he was gathering his clipboard and duffle bag, my neighbors said it wasn’t really that bad of neighborhood to need a security system. I understood them, but then I explained that I had had one for the past eight years and it made me feel much more confident when I slept and definitely while I was away. It also made my insurance go down, and once I told them that they looked at each other with a, “Really?!” I wrote down the home security website I went to, and introduced them to the salesman. He was extremely polite and gave them his card, and said if they had any questions to give him a call or they could go to the directory on the website. It has over 50 articles on various topics, and the answers to their questions are almost certainly there. We walked around the house and he gave me a quote on installation and monthly payments, and I couldn’t resist the opportunity. Every time I set my alarm, a rush of safety runs over my body. I can now watch Logan play in the living room knowing even though he feels safe in his mommy’s arms, she’s gone one step further for him.
